Mark Menzies MP visited Lytham Sixth Form College to speak to students and receive a tour of facilities

Fylde MP Mark Menzies visited Lytham Sixth Form College for a tour of the facilities and to speak to students about building their futures through quality technical and professional education

The visit came after Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College – often known as Lytham St Annes High School – decided to discontinue its A-level provision, leaving some people incorrectly believing the Sixth Form College was to close.

In fact, Lytham Sixth Form College’s Triple Diploma programmes in technical and professional subjects have seen continued demand for growth in the two years since the campus opened – and the College continues to flourish.

Following the visit, Mr Menzies said:

“The College invited me to come and see their excellent facilities and learn more about the technical and professional programmes they will continue to offer, despite the high school announcing it will no longer run A-levels.

“I was keen to speak to the students about their studies at Lytham Sixth Form College and find out what they wanted to do with their futures.

“I met one young woman – Javaria – who is expecting to progress onto a degree in pharmacy, and has had two offers from respected universities, as well as a number of art students and performers who wish to go into a variety of fields. It was great to see the passion and enthusiasm they had for their chosen pathways.

“While I was sorry that the high school was unable to continue providing A-levels from Lytham Sixth Form College, I would encourage anyone interested in post-16 education to see what the College is offering. As the Chancellor made clear in his recent Budget statement, the government considers technical education to be a fantastic route into highly desirable careers and vital to UK productivity and our economic prosperity.”

Lytham Sixth Form College is part of the Blackpool and The Fylde College family and delivers many of the same Ofsted Outstanding programmes at the campus on Church Road, Ansdell.

Head of Lytham Sixth Form Mandy Pritchard added:

“We were delighted Mr Menzies was able to take the time to visit the College and hear about the programmes we offer to our students.

“As well as respected qualifications, students studying at Lytham Sixth Form College receive a genuine college experience designed to equip them equally for the academic rigours of university and a vast range of graduate careers.

“While our partnership with the high school may have come to an end, we will continue to offer outstanding opportunities for young people in south Fylde in career-focused education which includes work placements with blue chip employers, as well as exciting and extensive enrichment activities, combining to deliver a unique learning experience.”
