“Come and see what’s on offer for school leavers in South Fylde.”
That was the message from Lytham Sixth Form College, South Fylde’s only public provider of post-16 education, ahead of its forthcoming open event.
The College will throw open the doors of its Church Road campus between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 6 October to give the opportunity for potential students to come and discuss its career-focussed courses.
Lytham Sixth Form College Associate Head, Matthew Barr, said:
“It has been quite a difficult time in South Fylde, with various local schools closing their sixth forms meaning we are the only remaining public provider.
“I feel strongly that it is the quality of what we offer which has allowed us to retain our position in the area, offering high level technical and professional qualifications which lead to places at quality universities or rewarding positions in industry.
“We are Blackpool and The Fylde College’s specific sixth form centre and deliver a choice of Ofsted Outstanding Level 3 Triple Diplomas, the equivalent of three A-levels, which are valued equally by universities and employers alike.
“Our open event will provide an ideal opportunity for people to come and see what the options are on their doorstep while hearing about some of our student success stories and the high quality employers we work with.”
Last year, Jakob Hodson completed his extended diploma in Engineering and received a triple distinction star. He joined the University of Central Lancashire in September for a degree in Energy Engineering. The 18-year-old, from Ansdell, said:
“I really enjoy engineering and the course taught me a lot.
“I liked that Lytham Sixth Form College was small and welcoming and the staff have been so supportive. My dream is to work in renewable energy and design something which helps future generations.”
