Information for Parents
Lytham Sixth Form College – part of the Blackpool and The Fylde College family – is committed to helping students achieve success. Following the recent announcement regarding the future of LSFC, students and their parents/guardians have been assured that students can continue their studies uninterrupted following closure of the site at the end of June 2019. Arrangements are therefore in place for students to continue their programme of study at an alternative Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) campus from September. To support this transition, students will continue to be taught by their current LSFC tutors.
The following FAQs have been shared with parents of current students.
Will my son/daughter be following the exact same course?
Will my son/daughter have the same tutors/lecturers?
Yes, subject to any normal staff changes due to resignations and answer 3 as below.
Will my son/daughter be in the same class or infilled into another group?
As has been the case this year at LSFC, smaller groups may be taught together.
Will the timetable be similar to LSFC ie 3 days per week?
Yes, it is anticipated that patterns of study will remain as they are based upon B&FC’s standard timetabling model for study programmes.
How will my son/daughter get to college?
B&FC will provide a free bus pass for your son/daughter for term-time use from September 2019 to June 2020. The majority of students who travel to B&FC use public transport. We will however consult with students to see if they would use a dedicated bus as an alternative to a bus pass. A dedicated bus would be subject to set times and minimum numbers, while public transport would provide students flexibility of travel. Travel solutions will be discussed with each student individually.
Will my son/daughter still be able to access the same level of financial support such as free lunch, bursaries etc?
Yes, students will still enjoy the same level of support.
Can we look around the campus and have a tour?
Yes – this can be arranged at your meeting with the Associate Head of LSFC and discussed at your 1:1 meeting.
Can my son/daughter finish their course somewhere else other than B&FC?
Yes, subject to that organisation providing the same course, awarding body and modules. If this is what you decide to do, B&FC will assist your daughter/son with this.
